Experience life in the heart of Malta's oldest historic city of Birgu, the city chosen by the Knights Hospitalliers when they first set foot on Malta in 1535.

This characteristic historic townhouse is situated in that part of the city which was exclusively reserved for the Knights of Malta - this quarter was known as the Collacchio and was clearly demarcated by stone markers - only members of the Order were allowed to enter here. The Knights lived here in their Auberges or Inns - magnificent 16th century palaces which were home of every language spoken by the Order of the Knights.

Acquired in 2003, the interior of No. 31 has been meticulously restored and renovated - its old world features have been brought back to their former glory, whilst all the comforts of contemporary living have now been installed. Within the area, you will find the Auberge the France, the Auberge d' Auvergne et Provence, the Auberge de Castille and the Auberge d'Angleterre, all of which are found only a few metres away.
 House Description
This typical Maltese corner townhouse is set on four floors and is situated in the most prestigious area of the city, the quarter known as the Collacchio. This area of the city was reserved exclusively for the Knights of Malta when they first settled in Malta in 1530. They did, in fact build beautiful Auberges in this area, several of which can still be seen today.

The property has been scheduled by the local Planning Authority for its architectural importance. The lower two floors date back to the period of the Knights of St. John, whereas the upper floor is a later nineteenth century addition, as are the internal stone stairs.

Accommodation consists of two relatively large rooms on every floor, and a central space containing a stone staircase and landing, leading from the ground floor to the roof level. The top floor is an open plan spacious room enjoying two sun terraces, with spectacular views of Valletta and the Grand Harbour.

The house comprises an entrance hall, a bedroom with a typical Maltese balcony overlooking the main street, a beautiful bathroom tastefully designed with antique period furniture, a modern kitchen and a bright, South-facing living/dining area on the piano nobile, as well as a beautiful sun terrace with impressive views of Valletta and the Grand Harbour on the top floor.

Bookings and Conditions
Accommodation is on a self-catering basis. Bookings are accepted for a maximum of two persons. The residence is ideal for a single person or a couple. Babies and Children under sixteen are not accepted. The master bedroom with a traditional Maltese balcony and the bathroom are found on the same floor, of which guests will have full private use.

You will also have shared use of all the house facilities, including the kitchen, the sitting room and the sun terrace.
